Things To Do
Some of the key attractions and activities in the area.
Barmouth
A traditional seaside resort. Barmouth is a fabulous place for families with miles of safe, clean, sandy beaches, donkey rides and trampolines, crabbing, candy floss and amusement arcades.
Barmouth also has a great heritage with links to Henry Tudor, the Titanic and the founding of the National Trust. A Heritage Trail leaflet, will guide you around the key sites. Have you stepped beyond the Victorian High Street and explored the alleyways of “The Rock”, the oldest part of Barmouth.
The harbour itself is a perfect place to relax with a coffee or perhaps explore the estuary by boat, you may even see dolphins! To get a close up view of the estuary and harbour, why not take a stand up paddleboard trip from the Yacht Club and get a whole new perspective on the familiar Barmouth landmarks?
Golf at Royal St Davids Golf Club
One of the best courses in the United Kingdom, only 5 miles away in Harlech! There are other courses available in Porthmadog to the North and Aberdovey to the South.
Railways
There are a number of railways for you to choose from around the area. With Ffestiniog and Snowdon to the North and the Tal-Y-Llyn and Fairbourne railways to the South. You will struggle to find a better way to take in some of Wales’s most spectacular scenery.
Harlech Castle
Rises like a clenched fist above the morfa. This is one of Edward the firsts great spectaculars built in 1283. Daring battlements and towers to explore, with a great view of distant Snowdon thrown in! If you enjoy a good castle, you should venture out to Cricieth and Caernarfon too!
Portmeirion Village
A dreamy village, it’s Italian beauty exceeding any village. Portmeirion’s builder Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, really gilded the lily, choosing the most beautiful situation, yet further embelleshing it with domes, towers and loggias. Even the Pines lean romantically.
Bendigedig
Located in Barmouth, Bendigedig has a soft play suitable for children aged 0-12. Consisting of an indoor basketball area, slides, big-bash maze, cannons and a cafe. “The Perfect place to catch up with friends, go online or simply enjoy a spot of reading while the kids burn off some energy”.
Farm Park and Play Barn
Situated on the site of Llanfair Slate Caverns, 1 mile south of Harlech. Go and see all your favourite farm animals. Taff the pony, various pigs, rabbits, calves, ducks, geese, hens, small pigmy goats and many other animals and birds. The animals are housed in the farm buildings, so a great day out whatever the weather.
Snowdonia National Park
Covering 823 square miles of diverse landscapes, Snowdonia National Park is a living working area. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in Wales. A wealth of picturesque villages such as Beddgelert and Betws-Y-Coed are all on your doorstep to discover from your base at Dyffryn Seaside Estate.
